CITIZENS’ CHARTER

The Ministry of Steel is responsible for the planning and development of the iron & steel industry, which interalia includes development of essential inputs such  as iron ore, limestone, dolomite, manganese ore, chromite, Ferro alloys, sponge iron, refractories etc. and other related functions. The following Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Bird Group of Companies are functioning under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel:

* OMDC, BSLC, KDCL and SSL are operating companies under the Bird Group.

* EIL, being an investment company is having a major stake in the equity shares of operating companies under the Bird Group.

2.       An   Empowered Committee has   been   functioning   under  the Chairmanship of  Secretary (Steel) to provide overall direction to the research efforts on iron and steel in the country and approve specific research projects placed before it for funding, fully or partially, from the Steel Development Fund (SDF).

3.      The twelve-point Citizens’ Charter given below is an expression of the commitment of the Ministry of Steel, including its Public Sector Undertakings, to the citizens of India:

    1. Sincerity and devotion to work with responsibility and responsiveness.
    2. Promptness in disposal of public grievances.
    3. Transparency in administration.
    4. Zero-tolerance of corruption.
    5. Cordial industrial relations.
    6. Safety and social security for the workers and their families.
    7. Optimum utilization of natural resources such as iron ore, limestone, dolomite, manganese ore, chromites etc. with due regard for conservation of the environment.
    8. Efficient operations of plants, mines and units for best utilization of public money.
    9. Facilitate availability of iron and steel products at internationally competitive prices and quality for maximum consumer satisfaction.
    10. Take steps for tribal welfare and make efforts to provide adequate resources for the rehabilitation of the affected people.
    11. Strengthening of Research and Development base so as to become a world leader in steel technology.
    12. Facilitate expansion and modernization of steel manufacturing including infrastructure facilities.

  • All   the    public grievance petitions sent to the Ministry are acknowledged and their disposal is closely monitored.
  • The time limit of 90 days from the date of receipt of the grievance has been laid down for settling the grievance.

5.      The Ministry’s website i.e. http://steel.gov.in, in bilingual format, on Internet is also available to provide information on major activities of the Ministry; the policy framework; overview of the steel sector etc. Links to Ministry’s PSUs have also been provided to give a wide coverage of information on the Steel Sector. This also gives the contact e-mail for registering grievances electronically.
